David who has had an illustrious legal career, is a regular guest speaker for many community organisations.
He was educated at Christian Brother College in East Melbourne and completed law at The University of Melbourne where he played A Grade amateur football with the premiership Old Paradians. For three years he was also on the Victorian Football League seniors playing list. On qualifying he worked for Ellison, Hewison and Whitehead where he later became a partner.
David was also The President of the Law Institute, playing an important role introducing important changes for the legal profession. He played a key role in negotiations with both State and Federal politians which lead to the setting up of The Legal Aid Commission, where he was Victoria’s first chairman. He was also for over 5 years the chairman of the Australian Broadcasting Tribunal.
David was also the first person who practiced as a solicitor to be appointed to the Bench of The County Court since its establishment in 1852.
As a Judge he was also Chairman of the Accident Compensation and Administrative Appeals Tribunals.
Upon retiring from the bench David has been a member of the Adult Parole Board, and has reviewed amongst many, laws in Jump Racing in Victoria, Terrorism in Australia, release of prisoners in Victoria and he was also Chairman of the AFL Tribunal.
