A Bunch of Amateurs is a comedy written by well-known British comedy writers Ian Hislop and Nick Newman.
Keen to boast his flagging career, Jefferson, a fading Hollywood action hero arrives in England to play King Lear at Stratford. However, it is not the birthplace of the bard as he thought, but a sleepy Suffolk village playing alongside a bunch of amateurs who are trying to save their theatre from developers.
As the Hollywood star’s ego, vanity and insecurity is tested to the limits by the enthusiastic amateur actors, the two worlds collide and Jefferson’s career implodes and he discovers some truths about himself and his inner Lear.
