Alan Porter has been a member of U3A Sunbury since 2004 and has also been a past President for several years.
He has given many talks about his time in the Homicide Squad to various community agencies but today he will talk about his early career in the Victoria Police which he joined in 1957.
Alan will describe his early adventures as a frontline policeman working operational uniform stations in the inner suburbs and at street front operations on divisional vans.
Alan progressed through the ranks to chief superintendent in command of a large operational district in northern and northwest suburbs of Melbourne until 1990 when he transferred to federal agency, Australian Protective Services.
If time permits Alan will also talk about how, as a commissioned officer, he prepared for special events and operations, with visits to Victoria by various Heads of State, and including his term as DISPLAN officer under the State Disaster Management Plan Alan welcomes lots of questions and audience participation, but having been retired for many years, his knowledge of current police issues is limited.
