From earliest times, walls have been used as a protection around cities and palaces, and were often of enormous thickness and of great height.
Some were also surrounded by a moat, making it even harder to invade and others had towers to keep a lookout for the approaching enemy.

This course will include eight units exploring the history of and the life of castles. We will learn about:

  • Architecture
  • Castle design and furniture
  • Kitchens and food
  • People of the castle from the royalty to the servants
  • Entertainment
  • Defence
  • Knights and the code of chivalry

We will also ‘visit’ some iconic and famous castles throughout the world.
