Try Out Healing Yoga

I’m Joan Coots, a Yoga Teacher in Sunbury.  I’ve lived in Sunbury since 1990 and I’ve worked in the disability and education field for almost 20 years with all ages.  I’m passionate about helping others to focus on their abilities and unique skills in order to live a more vibrant and fulfilling life.

With this in mind, I’ve developed a gentle, Healing Yoga class which honours the struggles and strengths of every person.  We’ll explore the healing powers that we naturally possess through this nurturing class.

There will be ‘try out’ classes on both 21st & 28th November 2019 between 1pm – 2.30pm in the Senior Citizens’ Hall, 8 O’Shanassy Street, Sunbury. login here or find out how to join and sign up now for these ‘try out’ classes – alternatively phone Gab Tooley on 0402 026 717.

Classes will begin by sitting in chairs to practise; regulation of the breath, meditation techniques and warm up stretches as well as discussions on basic health topics for emotional and physical wellbeing.  We’ll then move on to floor work with standing postures and balances with the aid of a chair if needed. The class will be tailored to individual needs so that everyone feels comfortable yet moderately challenged.  We’ll conclude with a guided meditation that is restorative and calming for the nervous system.

In some fashion we’re all healing every day of our lives. By taking the time to turn our attention inwards, we create more space for peace and joy in every day moments.  This class is suitable for both men and women who are experiencing any of these matters:

  • depression or anxiety
  • joint and inflammation issues
  • loss of muscle strength or balance
  • the effects of disease or illness
  • cognitive impairment
  • chronic pain
  • rehabilitation from surgery
  • feelings of loneliness or disconnection from self and others
  • optimal health and happiness!

Healing Yoga is for every BODY!  Naturally we go through cycles of feeling on top of the world and sometimes we swing low with physical or mental challenges.  Yoga is there for you wherever you are in the myriad cycles of life. I want to show you how to tap into your natural ability to send healing messages to your mind, body and spirit so that you can be the best version of yourself. The aim of this group is for each member to support each other and explore ways to endure the things we must and change the things within our power to control. My goal is for you to feel nurtured and relaxed so we will start at the beginning, wherever that may be for you.

If you have a yoga mat, feel free to bring it along.  We may or may not use them, but it’s handy to have your own if you like.  I will have spare mats on hand. Wear comfortable clothes so that you can move and stretch unhindered and bring a water bottle. Please eat only a light meal before coming to yoga and, if possible, eat an hour or two before the class.  It’s best to practice without a heavy meal in your stomach.

Further Healing Yoga events are scheduled for Term 1 2020.  I hope you’ll take time for yourself and join me to experience the rewards that yoga can bring to your life!

In peace & health, Joan
