An inspirational story of the Aussie team spirit of mateship, sacrifice, courage and endurance in the harshness and brutality of the Changi prison where a group of Australian POW’s dug deep and fought to maintain their spirit in the best way they knew how…Australian Rules Football.
Roger will be talking about his Dad’s story, awards and his achievements during the Second World War and his time in Changi Prison and infamous Thai Burma Railway.
Roger also has his own story and will share some of that with us, having joined the Melbourne Fire Brigade in 1981 and is still a serving member reaching the Rank of Acting Assistant Chief Fire Officer, being awarded the Australian Fire Service Medal in 2022 for his distinguished service over four decades.
Having experienced many fires and incidents including the 1991 Tank Fire at Coode Island and the Hazelwood Coal Mine fire in 2014.
Attendance at Guest Speakers requires that members must be fully vaccinated.
Therefore new members of U3A Sunbury must bring their vaccination certificate to be sighted at this event, unless it has been sighted and registered previously.
