Come and join us to hear Dr Fay Woodhouse an historian and biographer from the Melbourne University talk about her work with The Australian Dictionary of Biography which contains concise information and fascinating descriptions of the lives of significant and famous people in Australia.
The dictionary contains over 13,000 entries of the lives of people from all walks of life such as politicians, clergy, artists, actors, authors, engineers and school teachers and of course prostitutes, thieves and murders too.
Dr Fay Woodhouse will tell us all about The Australian Dictionary of Biography but also her association with the dictionary.
Dr. Woodhouse will also provide some brief bios of some of the interesting women she has investigated and written about, including Elly Lukas who is a relative of one of our members.
Dr Woodhouse has written widely on Australian social and political history and regularly contributes biographical entries to the Australian Dictionary of Biography her most recent publications included Watchdog for the People: 50 years of the Victorian Ombudsman 1973-2023, The Lancefield Football Club 1873-2023, Snapshots in time: images of Lancefield, Romsey and surrounding villages and Gita: Melbourne’s First Yoga School – 65 years of History.
