Come and join us for another Readings cinema gathering on Wednesday 20th March in the morning. We will know the definite time a week beforehand but it is expected to be around 11.00am.
This time we will be seeing The Great Escaper with Michael Caine and Glenda Jackson, who died shortly after staring in this movie.
In the summer of 2014 Bernard Jordan (Michael Caine) made global headlines as he staged a ‘great escape ‘from his care home to join fellow war veterans on a beach in Normandy to commemorate the 70th anniversary of the D Day landings.
It was a story that captured world imagination of a defiant “can-do” spirit of a generation that was fast disappearing, but in fact, it was an inspirational retelling of a man’s need to come to terms with the lasting trauma of war.
Glenda Jackson plays Rene Bernard’s wife of 60 years.
The Great Escaper celebrates their enduring love, but always with an eye to the lessons we might learn from the Greatest Generation.
Tickets are a low price of $10.00 to be paid on the day and for those interested we will once again go to lunch at Italhia after the movie.
If you would like to come, please register your interest on UMAS and we will send an email with the actual starting time a week beforehand.
